Dr. Katherine S. Harano
Dr. Katherine S. Harano, O.D. has been in practice in the Bay
Area the past 22 years. Originally from Berkeley, California,
she received her B.A. in Zoology from the University of California,
Berkeley. Then she continued to receive her B.S. and Doctor of
Optometry
in 1975. She started her optometry career in both private practice
and in a HMO setting through Kaiser Permanente in Hayward. In
1979, she started her own practice in Fremont with her husband,
Dr. Eddy L. Haw, O.D., in 1982. They continued the private practice
of retiring Dr. Hideo Nakano, O.D. of Newark, California.
To provide the full scope of optometry, Dr. Harano is licensed
in diagnostic and therapeutic drugs. She attends more than 30
hours of seminars annually. She has some experience in ASL (American
Sign Language) and has a TTY to assist her hearing impaired patients.
She enjoys working with patients of all ages, from children to
our senior citizens.
Eddy L. Haw, O.D.
Dr. Eddy L. Haw, O.D. has been in practice in the Bay Area for
over 22 years. Born and raised in Modesto, he graduated from the
University of California, Davis, with a degree in Biological Science.
Later he attended and graduated with a B.S. and Doctor of Optometry
at the University of California, Berkeley, with honors.
Dr. Haw is an affiliate doctor at University of California, Berkeley,
with diagnostic and therapeutic license to treat eye disease.
He co-manages laser refractive surgeries and cataract operations.
He does eye examinations for glasses, gas permeable and soft contacts
lenses, as well as complicated astigmatic and bifocal contact
lenses. He is also experienced in one day, two week disposable
and planned replacement contact lenses.
Dr. Haw was a Harold Kohn Award winner from the University of
California and is a published author in the American Journal of
Optometry and Physiological Optics. He is a member of the California
Optometric Association, American Optometric Association and Central
Fremont Lions Club. He speaks some Spanish, Cantonese, and ASL
(American Sign Language.)
